Can You Color Whipped Cream For Cake Decorating
ChefDebby Posted 22 Jun 2010 , 9:32pm
Hello!
I have been asked to do a cake with whipped cream (not my favorite) and was wondering if anyone has tried successfully to color it? I don't use real heavy whipping cream as I tend to over-whip it.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Many thanks in advance.

Make your normal batch of whipped cream and take a small amount away to color? See how it reacts to color being added?

That's a great idea. Thanks!

I just colored cool whip icing last week for a friend. I used the recipe that adds powdered sugar, milk and instant pudding to cool whip. I colored it using my wilton colors. The person wanted dark blue, so I had to add A LOT of color. The only problem was I'm pretty sure that after they ate the cake, their mouths were most likely blue My son was eating the leftover frosting and his toungue was blue after only 2 bites!!

Yikes, blue whipped cream?
I'll just have to try it and hope it comes out ok, if not, plan for plain white and decorate accordingly.

Just wondering how it turned out for you.

Thanks for the reminder. It turned out very well. I colored the heavy cream before I whipped it and poof! Yellow whipped cream! Let me try and attach a picture.

I just color it like I do buttercream, but fold the coloring gel in

I thought about doing that, but was afraid of over whipping my whip cream...I have a tendency to do that.

This is awesome! so did you use a non-dairy whipping cream for this cake? I tend to overwhip my real heavy cream too. I need to try adding the colors before whipping it up too. i tried adding color after and then it would overwhip

AI added liquid food coloring into the liquid whipped cream then whipped it. The color came out nicely and didn't affect texture
